Not decided to try a stay abroad? However, international experience represents a significant asset for your personal network. A meeting can be short but mean a lot...
Throughout my work at the Nimbus Center, I met people from all walks of life. Chilean, Italian, Spanish and obviously Irish but also French ! They each marked my stay in their own way. With this post, I would like to pay them a little tribute because, here is a presentation of 3 of them...
Speak with Jadrina, a Chilean intern
Intern at the Nimbus Center at the same time as me, I met a sociable person, with good advice and able to speak four languages ! Colleague and friend, we discovered Ireland together... Between laughter and intensive work, we created an indestructible friendship !
Jadrina :
Hello, my name is Jadrina De Andrade E Silva and I’m a Chilean engineering student who recently did an internship at MTU.
I majored in robotics in my undergraduate studies in Chile and am currently doing a 2 years master in computer science in France.
For my internship at MTU, I developed a behavior tree to control a rover based on those used for exploring Mars, allowing it to navigate chosen paths, pause, be sent home and call for help when stuck.
Personal fact :
I come from an international family and due to my background I can speak 4 languages : English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
Meet Keren, a Filipina PhD researcher
It is at the end of my internship that I met Keren. With her, we talked about everything and nothing and we discussed about the countries where we come from and the ones we have visited. Always ready to help and very open to others, I only regret one thing : not having been able to spend more time with her...
Keren :
Hello there ! I'm Keren, currently a PhD researcher. I had the pleasure of meeting Fanny during her internship at the Nimbus Centre in Ireland. Although our time together with Fanny and the other interns was brief, we managed to exchange not only our research interests but also our thoughts on culture, diet, blog writing, and even the joys of boat travel !
Speaking of boat travel, Fanny's enthusiasm for it has sparked my interest, and I'm considering embarking on a boat journey to France next summer, with the intention of documenting the experience through...a blog ! Not only is boat travel environmentally friendly, but it also encourages us to slow down and embrace patience in our fast-paced world.
Regarding my research, I'm afraid I can't divulge too many details at the moment. Perhaps I'll share more once it's ready for publication, possibly on my LinkedIn profile.
I wish Fanny the very best in her academic pursuits and future endeavors, and I hope that fate will bring us together again, allowing us to explore new destinations together.
Work with Alvaro, a MTU researcher
Interested in the project I was working on, I met Alvaro. Working in the field of high communications, he also supported me during the final part of my project. Patient and competent, I really enjoyed working with him.
Alvaro :
I am Alvaro de Medeiros, I am a professor of Electrical Engineering at Federal University of Juiz de Fora in Brazil.
I was looking for a post doc position to my area of expertise to work during my sabbatical leave. I found this position in Nimbus social media to work as a postdoctoral researcher at CONFIRM Smart Manufacturing project and applied for it.
I came to Ireland and my family on August 2021. The work has been very interesting as we keep in touch with different research projects and people with distinct abilities. During all this time, I have learnt to operate a variety of measurement equipment and wireless transceiver platforms, and to acquire data form all of these devices. This is essential to our project as this data have been used to characterize the effects of the industrial environment in the wireless signal.
Here is my LinkedIn profil : https://www.linkedin.com/in/alvaro-medeiros-065741/
The meetings I had were very important for me both professionally and personally. I think this is one of the best things about international travel : we don't know who we are going to meet and it must be said, we will always be very surprised !
My twelfth and final post comes to an end. The enchantment ends. But the magic of this experience has not completely disappeared, it continues to exist if, now, you have the will, the desire to go abroad. Because after all, traveling is a bit magical, isn’t it ?
